I've really enjoyed this course. It has made me really look at things differently. I notice shadows, light, composition and subject matter more. Now, even when I watch a movie, I notice the cinematographer's vision and the framing of the shot.

It's been great conversing with everyone online and seeing and sharing our work. Thanks so much, especially Prof. Nevins. Have a great summer!

The first portrait I converted to black and white and the second I just tried to play up the colors and highlights a little bit more.

Grades Due Friday

Hi Everyone....

Class ends this week and since graduation is coming up so quickly, the Registrar has asked that my grades for both ADP and day classes be submitted no later than Friday, May 7th.

Do you best to post all of your wok by then. I'll be looking at both your posts to this blog as well as the work you posted in your fotothing portfolio. Your comments on other students work here on the blog and in fotothing also plays in the mix.

Have a great summer. As always, it was a fun way to offer this class and the excellent results show that it was worthwhile.

Life has an unexpected way of reminding you that every day is a gift and every day should be treasured. A few weeks ago my daughter got sick, no one thought much of it, just a fever and headache - that was until last Saturday when she was found unresponsive in her bed and she was rushed to the ER. She some how contracted a rare strep that oddly traveled into her brain. God was watching over her because she underwent emergency brain surgery at Yale and is now recovering - I am told a few hours later would have been too late. Needless to say, my photography took a back seat until yesterday when my Julia asked to go to the Healing Garden on the roof at Yale - she is above with her dad. While there, she helped me find some other neat photos to take so I could submit them for class and not get an F - LOL - Life is unexpected, live it and love it.

By the Sea

These shots were taken by a pond in Plainville, CT - one street away from my house. I was able to get some good shots of the pond. Even though its not the most beautiful view in person, the photos enhance the look of the pond. In one photo you will see a man fishing. In the other photo, I captured a picture of the sky, which just looked beautiful together with the pond. The close up of the rocks make them look much prettier than what they look like in person. This shoot was fun.

What a great course! I will be bringing a lot of knowledge away from this course, as I have challenged myself to think "outside the box" in terms of my previous photographic knowledge and capability. I feel as though my composition is much better, and my eye for "seeing" has improved. I have a better knowledge for editing images as well, which definitely comes in handy. My photo-taking will not stop here! Thank you Professor Nevins!

I had lots of fun with making my own little "paintings". I believe my favorite element is the eye. I also loved being able to fade different objects so everything isn't completely a solid within the works. With the sea picture the fade worked with me to be able to make it look like the clocks were inside of the bubbles and the balloon pictures it helped give the eye are reflected feel to it.

I chose to upload these two images because I could not decide which one I liked better. I like the first one because of its simplicity and contrasting textures. The second one I chose because I love the dimensions of the checkered pattern and how it looks like it is just kind of rotating in the air. More on my fotothing.

This is a picture of my eldest son Aldrin named after the astronaut Buzz Aldrin. He is very independent, social, an honor student in school and also very dependable especially to his siblings. I took this portrait of him gazing out our kitchen window.

Again, I could not pick my best two, but this time it was because I wanted to share all three of these different photos! I took these pictures at home and was very frustrated taking them because after I snapped each photo, I realized that they weren't good so I ended up taking about one hundred of them and my subjects were getting annoyed, but it was okay. Anyway, the top picture is of my mother and yes, I know, there is a lot of noise in this picture, but I felt that the way the light was reflecting, this would be my best image and with that said, the top image is my favorite out of all of them. The second picture is of my brother-in-law, Keith. I thought this picture was nice because it has a vast difference of light and dark in it. Finally, the last picture is of one of my two dogs. Her name is Penny. Luckily, I was able to catch a shot of her perched up on her favorite chair. I like this photo because of the way the light is reflecting off of her back and top of head and snout.

I chose my husband and daughter for this assignment. Set it up in my dining room with light from two windows on an overcast day. It was fun to see what came out of this exercise. Hope I was able to catch the inner emotion of my subjects.

My first attempt at creating an automatism surreal image from my viewpoint is captured in the top image that I named "diligent". The eagle reflects myself. The watch is a measurement of time in order to balance my busy life with the chess piece reflecting the impossible. Sometimes I make it up the stairs of success other times not so. My perseverance fly in search of answers. The bottom image is not as dramatic but a view of an surrealism expression on how "colorful" the world is in which we live in.

I was in Florida last week for my cousins wedding, so I was lucky enough to be able to use this occasion, not only to capture some great shots for my cousin, but also to be able to use some photos for this assignment as well. I've chosen three shots: one of my cousin at her wedding, one of a family friend, and one of my younger cousins at the beach. I'll be posting some more portraits as well, now that I'm back home and I can work with a subject by window light...but I wanted to post these to share as well. Hope you enjoy! Here are a few photos of my niece that I took by hanging a black drop cloth on my wall and then softening the photo background to make it appear more natural. It just so happened that she needed a photograph for her school year book that she missed because she unfortunately got the H1N1 virus. As you can see, she is doing just fine now and I was really happy to have such a pretty model to utilize for photos for this class!

For my three favorite images this week, I've chosen a bowl of cranberries, a blossoming daisy and a spiderweb that I found on the bushes after the morning dew. I like the cranberries because of the vibrance and variation of the deep red color. I enjoy the blossoming daisy because nature is always beautiful, especially when you can capture how things grow. I thought the spider web on the bush was neat, because it shows yet another thing created by nature, and the complexity of a spider web has always kept me intrigued.
